JOB DESCRIPTION POST TITLE:   Home Manager RESPONSIBLE TO:   Managing Director
REPORTING TO:   Regional Manager

JOB PURPOSE: To take overall responsibility for the smooth running of the Care Centre and the general well being of the Clients and Staff. Ensuring that all company policies, and procedures, legal requirements are adhered to within the defined timescales.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS Required:

-    NVQ Level 3 in Care of the Elderly/Social Work Qualification/Management Qualification
-    Previous management / supervisory experience
-    Able to communicate at all levels
-    Team leader

Desired:

-    Care for the Elderly experience / qualification/Nursing Qualification/NVQ level 4/RMA

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: Care:
1.   To assess social needs in a residential care setting and health needs of prospective clients in a nursing care setting and subsequently to monitor the planning and on-going evaluation of care.
2.   Continually assess and supervise the work of Staff to ensure consistently high standards and efficient running of the Care Centre while creating an atmosphere conducive to the best interests of the Clients.
3.   Practise maximum integrity in all dealings with Clients' personal and financial affairs and avoid abuse of the privileged relationships which exists with Clients.

Communication:

4.   Ensure and maintain regular communications with the respective Regional Manager
5.   Preserve effective communications through regular contact / meetings with Clients, Relatives, Staff, Regional Manager and any other concerned bodies; maintaining appropriate minutes / reports.
6.   Liaise with the Activities Co-ordinator, Clients, Relatives and other Staff in the development of activities for Clients which will enhance their quality of life.
7.   Liaise with the Chef / Cook to ensure that the storage, preparation, dietary appropriateness, cooking and serving of food meet the required standards.
8.   Liaise with the House Keeper and Maintenance Person to ensure all areas of the Home, inside and out, are properly cleaned, maintained and adequately heated.

Budgetary / Financial Control:
9.   Manage and maintain agreed budgets, in conjunction with the Regional Manager, by monitoring on a weekly basis and taking corrective action as required.
10.   Review and authorise monthly returns and notify the Finance Department of any discrepancies.

Personnel:
11.   Endeavour to fill any Staff vacancy by advertising in the job centre or by contacting the H.R.
Department at Head Office. Interview and select suitable personnel (The positions are to be offered within the normal terms of employment in operation at the Care Centre at the time). Manage personnel records to adhere to company policy and requirements under the Care Standards Act 2000. Manage same records adhering to the Data Protection Act.
12.   Implement and manage the company’s discipline and grievance policy and procedure.
13.   Monitor and control sickness / absence in accordance with the company’s policy and procedure.

Marketing:
14.   Actively market the Care Centre and promote a positive personal / professional profile within the local community, ensuring the good reputation of the Care Centre at all times.
15.   Endeavour to fill any Client vacancy by liaising with social services and health authorities/boards and assessing/selecting suitable Clients. (These places are to be offered within the normal terms of residency and the fee structure in operation at the Care Centre at the time).

Training & Development:
16.   Ensure Staff receive appropriate training in all aspects of their work in the Care Centre.
Promote Staff training and development and maintain up to date records.

Health & Safety:
17.   Carry out duties as "Responsible Officer" for the Care Centre under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Fire Regulations. Ensure the implementation of the Care Centre’s Health and Safety Policy and that Emergency and Fire Procedures are carried out.
18.   Monitor and review accident reports and infection control, ensuring regulatory bodies are informed of an incident when necessary; i.e. Health Authorities/Boards, Environmental/Public Health, etc.

General:
19.   Adhere to all appropriate NMC guidelines / regulations in a nursing care setting. Adhere to all appropriate guidelines of the Social Care Council in a residential care setting.
20.   Organise all routines within the Care Centre and undertake general nursing and personal care work as required
21.   Maintain and update/or keep current professional knowledge and competence.
22.   Control the ordering and administration of drugs within the Care Centre and maintain the necessary records as required by the regulatory authorities.
23.   Ensure that all information of a confidential nature gained in the course of work is not divulged to third parties.
24. Maintain such log books and records as may be required by both the Registering Authority and the Directors of Akari Care Ltd
25.   Organise ‘on-call’ for emergencies which may arise within the Care Centre.
26.   Maintain correct records of the working hours of both Home Manager and all Staff.
27.   Ensure the security of the Care Centre is maintained at all times.
28.   Assist in the arrangements for fund raising.
