Who are the CQC ?

The CQC are the leading independent regulators of Health and Social care in England.

They monitor inspect and regulate all the health and social care suppliers to make sure they are complying within the standards that have been laid out.

They constantly check and work in the following ways:

• Checking that all services meet the Fundamental standards that everyone who is in care has the right to receive.

• Registering care services that meet the standards.

• Checking, monitoring, inspecting, and regulating services to make sure that the correct standards are being met and followed.

• Making sure that the rights of vulnerable people including those under the Mental Health act are protected.

• Receiving, listening and acting upon your points and experiences.

• Working with the public, working in partnership with organisations and local groups, involving the people who receive care in all aspects of CQC work.

• Confront and challenge all care providers, with the worst getting the most attention.

• Take action on care services if they are failing to meet the safety regulations and fundamental standards of quality.

• Investigate and carry out in depth reports looking at care across the system.

• Publish clear and concise information that is available to all.

 

Care homes

Care homes offer accommodation and personal care for people who may not be able to live independently. Some homes also offer care from qualified nurses or specialise in caring for particular groups such as younger adults with learning disabilities.

Care home places can be funded publicly but many people pay for their own care.

Types of care home

There are two main types of care homes you can search for on this website – residential and nursing homes. You can use the links below to find the services you need.

Residential care home

Range in size from very small homes with few beds to large-scale facilities.
Offer care and support throughout the day and night.
Staff help with washing, dressing, at meal times and with using the toilet.

They work with all local authorities, other regulators and agencies, and sometimes the police to make sure the correct action is taken.
